In music, a song… my life

Someone recently asked me why, instead of talking about sex, men and chocolate, I don’t talk about what has inspired my musical career, like why I chose to sing, my University studies from fine arts in Barcelona to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, my hours and years of dedication to music, my work routine, and about my songwriting and my frustrations…

Quite sincerely, I couldn’t come up with the answer. My mother put on records to put me to sleep when I was a little girl. On the streets playing with friends, we sang to every game and when I began to go out with boys, I had my favorite songs that always reminded me of romantic moments with that special someone. When I was feeling melancholy, I think the sound of old records was what lightened my mood the most.

In the summer fiestas, I loved the dance songs and especially the slow songs in that all I could think about was getting closer and closer to my partner and feeling his hand somewhere touching my body. And who didn’t have a song for their first love…or their first time making love.

When you are happy, when you are sad , when you are in love, when…when…when…

Now I know why I didn’t have the response: because when I am in the music, I am in life… I love, I kiss, I make love, I express myself, I get angry, I explain it to you, I tell you about it, I ask you, I show my vulnerability, I show how I am a woman…I live…I am who I am… And all of this I tell you with a song…and, of course, with a piece of chocolate… It is important to satisfy all the senses.

So I randomly stumbled upon your blog through the Berklee internship database and read this post, which really struck a chord with me. no pun intended. lol. You couldn’t have worded what being IN LOVE with music is like any better than that last paragraph. I feel the same sentiments exactly. It’s as if you let go of all fear or worry and just embrace the sound like your lover. You are sweet and attentive to it’s needs. You are gentle yet confident making sure to pay attention to every detail. I think your Mother is right though. I would love to hear some music of yours talking about your pursuit of this love for music. I’ve heard a lot about you here at school. I’m moving to NY this summer and was thinking about applying for the internship with your management company. Anyways, this was a nice blog. just wanted to share my thoughts.
